The town is situated at an elevation of 150 m above sea level, on the right bank of the River Segura. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters.
The economy of the municipality is based primarily on agriculture, with crops such as oranges, lemons, olives and almonds being grown. There is also some light industry and tourism.
The town has a number of historical landmarks, including the 14th century Church of Santa María de la Asunción and the 18th century Hermitage of San Sebastián.
