Akbakay is a town in Kazakhstan, located on the right bank of the Nura River in the Akmola Region. It is the administrative center of Akbakaysky District. The town’s population is 20,027 (2020),[1] up from 15,964 (2009 Census results).[2]

The town was founded in 1931 as a settlement around the Akbakay chemical plant. It was granted town status in 1938.
