Amberg was first mentioned in 1034, in a document from Emperor Conrad II. Amberg became a town in 1269. It wasUnity of Brethren, and later became Lutheran.
The town was badly damaged in the Thirty Years’ War, and was captured by the French in 1632. The French withdrew in 1634, but returned in 1646. The town was destroyed by fire in 1659, and again in 1689. It was rebuilt each time.
