Acharnés is a town and municipality in East Attica, Greece. The town is located 10 km north of Athens city centre. The municipality has an area of 11.605 km2.
Acharnes was first mentioned in Homers Iliad as Acharneis (Αχαρνείς). It was an ancient deme of Athens, and it was located in the north-eastern part of Attica, between Mount Parnes and the Cephissus river. The Acharnians were known for their bravery and their love of agriculture.
The town is served by Acharnes railway station on the Athens to Thessaloniki line.
