The commune includes the hamlets of Saint-Mards-les-Rouges and Saint-Mards-en-Othe, which are located on the left bank of the river.

The name Pont-Sainte-Marie comes from the fact that there was a bridge across the Seine at this location as early as the 9th century. The current bridge was built in 1856.
