Ak-Dovurak is a town in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, located on the left bank of the Belaya River, 220 kilometers (140 mi) from Ufa, the capital of the republic. The town’s name is derived from the Turkic word for “white”.
The town has a population of 22,716 (2010 Census), making it the second largest town in the republic after Sterlitamak.
The town is the administrative center of Akdovsky District, one of the districts of Bashkortostan.
The first mention of Ak-Dovurak in written sources dates back to 1574, when it was noted as a village in the Ufa pyale (a type of administrative unit in the Russian Empire). In 1781, it was granted town status and became the center of Akdovsky Uyezd of Orenburg Governorate.
