Aleksin is a town and the administrative center of Aleksinsky District in Tula Oblast, Russia, located on the Upa River, 129 kilometers (80 mi) south of Tula, the administrative center of the oblast. Aleksin was first mentioned in a chronicle in 1359. It was sacked by the Tatars in 1512 and in 1608. Aleksin developed as a trade center on the Moscow–Kaluga road. It was granted town status in 1778.
